Beschreibung

This pencil and watercolour drawing depicts the front and back view of a rectangular stucco and glass window. The front view shows the motif of a stylized vase of flowers in a medallion, surrounded by tendrils with blossoms and framed by an arch; it is embedded in a wooden frame. The back view shows the roughly cut pieces of glass fixed with plaster to the back of the stucco grille. The green glasses corresponding to the stems of the flowers are indicated with green watercolour.

Forschung

Wild recorded the windows of the Beyt Hassan Pasha in several drawings (IG_440, IG_442, IG_448).
The motif of a stylized flower in a vase in a medallion similar to the one in this drawing by Wild can also be found in a window that is part of the collections of the Musée du Louvre (IG_4). Wild seems to have appreciated this motif, as he based the design for one of the windows produced in 1865–66 for the Oriental Courts of the South Kensington Museum in London (Victoria and Albert Museum, MES. LOST. 21) on this Cairene drawing (Giese, 2021, pp. 97–98; see IG_425, IG_435).
