Biographical Data

Léon-Auguste Ottin (1836–1918) was a painter, stained-glass artist, and author in Paris. At the world’s fair of 1878 he presented two religious stained-glass windows. At least from 1891 onwards, he was professor of stained glass and art history at the école municipale professionnelle (vocational school) of Paris (Conseil municipal de Paris, 1891, p. 4).
In 1892, Ottin published L’Art de faire un vitrail, about stained-glass techniques, and in 1896 Le Vitrail. Son histoire, ses manifestations à travers les âges et les peuples. This book, illustrated with numerous figures and plates, explores the history and development of stained glass.
