    Description

    In der Mitte steht der erste Landammann St. Gallens, Karl Müller-Friedberg (1755–1836). Dieser war 1803 von Napoleon zum Präsidenten der provisorischen Regierung des neu geschaffenen, aus der Fürstabtei hervorgegangenen Kantons St. Gallen ernannt worden. In seiner Linken hält er die neue Verfassung, die Rechte ist zum Schwur erhoben. Links hinter ihm steht ein französischer Soldat, der auf diesen historischen Hintergrund verweist. Rechts erscheint der hl. Gallus, der Gründer des Klosters St. Gallen. Zu seinen Füssen befindet sich sein Attribut, der Bär.
