    Description

    Im Mittelbild ist Jakobs Kampf mit dem Engel festgehalten (Gn 32, 23–33), darunter eine erklärende Bildlegende angebracht. Vor einem bewaldeten Hügel ringt Jakob mit dem Engel. Im Hintergrund ist der Fluss Jabbok zu sehen sowie Jakobs Herden und Knechte. Nach der biblischen Beschreibung renkt der Engel im Kampf Jakobs Hüfte aus, was die Inschrift festhält.

    Research

    Eine im Typus vergleichbare runde Bildscheibe mit alttestamentarischer Darstellung ohne Stifterinschrift und Jahrzahl befindet sich heute auf Schloss Altenklingen (TG_187). Ein frühes Beispiel einer solchen Bildscheibe mit einem Gleichnis aus dem Neuen Testament, um 1560 entstanden, existiert im Bernischen Historischen Museum (BE_1473).

    Die Scheibe ist unpubliziert.
