The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) was founded for the advancement of architecture. Formed in 1834 in London, it was originally named the Institute of British Architects in London. In 1837, it was granted its Royal Charter and known as the Royal Institute of British Architects in London, eventually dropping the reference to London in 1892.
